How does affiliate marketing work?

Let's explain how does affiliate marketing function.
  1. Affiliate places a creative such as a banner ad on their website. 
  2. A visitor arriving at affiliate website sees the ad and if interested, clicks on the banner. Once the banner is clicked, then a tiny piece of code called cookie is placed on visitor browser. 
  3. A visitor arrives on the advertiser company website and learns more about products being sold there. In case visitor completes purchase during the agreed cookie period (agreement between advertiser and affiliate), then purchase is counted and affiliate receives a commission for it. 

So as you see, affiliate marketing includes some technological yet crucial aspects to make it all work. Also the better the experience for the consumer starting from arriving at affiliate website and ending with filling the shopping cart on the advertiser website, the better the outcome.
